Police probe Pillai’s weapons racket

The Mumbai police questioning gangster Kumar Pillai said they are focusing on the gang’s involvement in weapons smuggling. They found that the weapons came from outside the state. “We will find who the gang’s supplier was,” said a senior crime branch officer.

The police are probing Pillai’s aide, who he said was using his name to run illegal activities.

Sources said there were redevelopment projects in the pipeline at Kanamwar Nagar, Tagore Nagar and parts of the city, which they suspect the gang was interested in. Police suspect the gang was actively involved in these projects. Pillai would make money by threatening and extorting those who redeveloped properties in Vikhroli and peripheral areas, said officials.
