Police seize Vora’s laptop

A day after journalist Jigna Vora was arrested in connection with the murder of senior crime reporter J Dey, the police searched her Ghatkopar residence for clues and seized her laptop.

A day after journalist Jigna Vora was arrested in connection with the murder of senior crime reporter J Dey, the police searched her Ghatkopar residence for clues and seized her laptop. A team from the Mumbai crime branch also seized the computer used by Vora at her workplace. Police suspect that Vora sent details of Dey's work and whereabouts to Chhota Rajan through e-mail, that allegedly help him plan the murder.

The crime branch has deputed an assistant commissioner of police to question Vora. The ACP, whose identity is being withheld so as not hamper investigation, has more than 20 years of experience and is known in Mumbai police circles as a very seasoned, level-headed and sharp interrogator. “He is one of our best and has investigated several high profile cases for the crime branch,” a police officer said, on condition of anonymity.

Police sources said that Vora's initial questioning revolved around the contradictions between the two statements that were recorded prior to her arrest. Sources said that these contradictions relate mainly to the phone calls she had allegedly received from or made to the gangster.

Vora, deputy bureau chief at The Asian Age, was arrested on Friday under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act for her alleged role in the murder of J Dey. She will be in police custody till December 1.
