Police want video game parlour rule scrapped

The police on Tuesday told the Bombay High Court that the commissioner of police has forwarded a proposal to the state to remove a rule, which prohibits setting up a video parlour within 75 metres from an existing one.

The bench was hearing a petition filed by Krishna Shetty, the proprietor of Sangam Video Game Parlour at Mulund (W), challenging the licence granted to another parlour — just 35 meters away from his parlour — in June 2009. He has sought cancellation of the licence.

In case the proposal is not passed the state, the police have decided to conduct a survey of all existing video parlours in the city to find out how many have been set up in contravention of the rule. The HC has given the state six weeks to decide whether the rule should be deleted.
