The power failure on Sunday, that plunged the island city into darkness for an hour, also affected train services as Tata Power supplies electricity to the Railways, too.

A Railway official said the supply from one receiving station was affected between 5.15 pm and 5.18 pm which resulted in signal failure for three minutes. While trains did not stop, they were running slow. On Central Railway, that was already severely affected by a rail roko near Vikhroli, trains were running slow by at least 20 minutes. The cascading effect remained for an hour. On Western Railway, the trains were running about 15 minutes late due to signal problems.
This is a second such incident in a week. On Thursday, the airport, and the Western Railway went without power following a grid failure. The airport had been affected from 6pm to 6.20pm. The problem occurred due to a tripping of Tata Power’s Trombay — Salsette — Borivli 220 KV transmission lines. The Dahanu Thermal Power Station had tripped due to overloading of the system, , resulting in power failure in the suburbs. Even Western Railway was late by 5 minutes.
