Pre-monsoon showers arrive in Mumbai

“As per our predictions, the south-west monsoon should reach the Andaman and Nicob-ar Islands on May 20 and then advance towards the subcontinent,” said VK Rajeev, director, India Meteorological Depart-ment (IMD), western region.

Weathermen described Mon-day’s drizzle at Churchgate, Marine Drive, Dadar, Mahim and Vile Parle as pre-monsoon showers. “These showers are due to high temperatures and humidity in the atmosphere,” said Rajeev, adding that the phenomenon would last for two days.

On Monday, high humidity levels of 85% and 74% were recorded in Colaba and Santacruz respectively. The maximum temperature recorded at Santacruz was 33 degrees Celsius, and at Colaba it was 34 degrees Celsius.
