In Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra, Profession Tax is a state-level tax that is applicable on both individuals and organisations.

Every person engaged in any profession or trade is liable and has to obtain a Certificate of Enrolment from the Profession Tax Authority for paying tax.

The tax amount varies from Rs 175 for individuals earning Rs 5,000 to 10,000, to Rs 2,500 to be paid by salaried individuals.
