A large pothole was found on the flyover within days of its inauguration in the first week of June.

Speaking at the inauguration of two lanes of the Barfiwala flyover at Andheri (West), Chavan rapped the technical experts behind the construction of the 2.45 km flyover.

Even though Chavan did not specifically mention who should be held responsible — the nodal agency Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority or the contractor who built the bridge — he asked for accountability.

“I have received a technical report on the pothole. Those responsible for building the flyover should find out whether the pothole was formed because of disproportionate mixing of chemicals or faulty black topping,” said Chavan.

However, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar attacked the contractors. “There should be some control over the contractors. They should be blacklisted permanently if it is found that their work is continuously faulty. Along with completing the projects, one should also ensure that the respective project is completed in time and has good quality work,” said Pawar.

Two other lanes are still under construction and are expected to be completed by next year.
