The prosecution, on Monday, sought capital punishment for the six convicted for the murder of matka king Suresh Bhagat, which includes his wife and son.
According to the prosecution, Bhagat and six others were killed when a dumper collided with their car on the Alibaug Pen Road on June 13, 2008.
Investigation revealed that the accident was planned by Bhagat’s wife Jaya and son Hitesh.
The sessions court, on Friday, convicted — Suhas Roge, Harish Mandvekar, Kiran Amle, Pravin Shetty, Jaya and Hitesh — for the murder.
Special public prosecutor Kalpana Chavan said that the case falls under the rarest of rare case category and the convicts should be awarded capital punishment.
Ramesh Mahale, investigating officer, said, “The case was tough as it based on circumstantial evidence. We have managed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.”
The court has reserved the case for final verdict on July 31.
