A day after the Bombay high court termed the sedition charge against cartoonist Aseem Trivedi arbitrary, home minister RR Patil asked Mumbai police commissioner Satyapal Singh to act against those who booked the anti-graft activist under the serious charge.

“I have given orders to the CP to take required action against both the police officials and the legal advisor who slapped the sedition section,” Patil told HT on Saturday.
According to a senior home department official, an initial investigation has led them to conclude that the “sedition charge was uncalled for and the advice given to the police official [concerned] was incorrect”.
Trivedi was arrested for sedition last Saturday, for insulting the national emblem and Parliament, and was released on bail on Tuesday.
