According to the police, Khan received eight awards, including certificates of appreciation between 2003 and 2008 from Lions Club, Unity Charitable Trust and other organisations.

“We have started writing letters to these clubs, trusts, asking clarification on why they felicitated Khan,” said police inspector Kalpana Gadekar.

The police also seized a membership certificate of Central Research Institute of Medical Sciences from Khan’s clinic dated May 24, 2008. “We are investigating how he managed to get the membership,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police KMM Prasanna, Zone IX.

The police said Khan, using his network and political connections, must have paid up donations to these trusts and organisations. “He must have given them donations and asked them to honour him,” said an officer. The police also seized by Khan’s biodata during the raid. “It stated that Khan completed post graduation from Kota in Rajasthan in 1972. There is no mention of university, which awarded him the degree. His year of birth is 1950. How did he secure a PG degree in 22 years?” asked Gadekar.

Khan had made a fortune selling illegal medicines that he claimed could cure all diseases.
