Quick fix for power failure in suburbs

A month ago, Reliance Infrastructure’s engineers, deployed over a 400 sqkm area depended solely on their

own experience and intelligence to identify and fix electrical faults.

The GIS system, however, helps detect the nature of faults and their exact locations immediately, thus reducing the duration of outages.

The system — first of its kind in the country — began operating this month after successful trials.

The system uses its own intelligence to identify faults and inform the workforce accordingly.

The knowledge gained through GIS-based system helps RInfra engineers in mobilising support — labour-intensive

and technical — depending on the seriousness of the crisis.

Lalit Jalan, RInfra’s chief executive officer, told HT that technology adoption was the most crucial and essential aspect in bringing efficiency into power distribution.
