Renowned cartoonist R.K. Laxman, who was admitted to the ICU of Breach Candy Hospital after suffering three strokes, was stable on Monday, said doctors treating him.
The 86-year-old had suffered three mild strokes last week, leaving him with multiple medical complications. Laxman was brought to Mumbai from his Pune home — he has been living there for a few years — when he suffered a stroke last Thursday.
“Even on Thursday, he told the doctors in Pune to give him a piece of paper or let him go home and finish his cartoon and come back for treatment,” recounted his daughter-in-law Usha.
She added that a small blood clot may have been responsible for the stroke.
“He is responding to medication and the doctors are going to monitor him for the next 48 hours,” said Usha.
“He is making eye contact but he is unable to talk since the strokes.”
General Vijay Krishna, CEO of Breach Candy Hospital, said Laxman was “stable”.
