Railway police to undergo training as detection rate drops

With the GRP’s detection rate dropping from 64% in 2013 to 55% last year, the railway police are now going back to basics and arranging for special training sessions for the force.

The GRP officials will now undergo training and sit for lectures to improve their detection skills.

On the other hand, the conviction rate of the railway police has improved and was a record 72% in 2014.

“Our conviction rate is the best in the state. But there are concerns about solving a case. We are arranging lectures so that the understanding of law improves. Also, special training sessions will be held at the Centre for Police Research and Maharashtra Intelligence Academy in Pune,” said Dr Ravinder Singal, GRP commissioner.

GRP officials attributed the increase in conviction to the special measures being taken by the personnel towards cracking a particular case.

“The GRP focuses on catching the accused soon after a crime is reported. We try to find evidence to present a watertight case in court,” said Singal.

“We are in touch with officials of the Home Guards and civil defence and have asked them to make available enough personnel. On our part, we have asked the police stations concerned to conduct training sessions for them so they respond in an ideal manner in any situation,” said Singal.
