The incident took place around 9.30am when the train, which was coming from Dombivli, overshot at CST and crashed into the iron panels on platform no 4.

The Central Railway (CR) has ordered an inquiry to check if the fault in the German-made Siemens rakes or was it the misjudgement by the motorman.

The National Railway Mazdoor Union (NRMU) has decided to wait for the report and then take the necessary action. “We have called the committee meeting on Wednesday in which all the Union members will decide the course of action. We will abide by the rules and support the motorman,” said a senior member of the union, requesting anonymity.

According to the NRMU, the German-made trains have a braking problem. When the brakes are applied at the speed of 10kmph, sometimes they do not affect the wheels, causing the motorman losing control over the train.
