Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray on Sunday warned multiplex owners saying that they will have to show Marathi movies during prime time and also asked Marathi population to go to the theatres to watch movies and plays.
“I have called a meeting of Marathi producers on Monday to discuss their issues,” Raj Thackeray told reporters. “We are warning multiplex owners that their arrogance will not be tolerated," he said,
"There are some good Marathi movies. Mahesh Manjerekar’s ‘Mee Shivaji Raje Bhosle Boltoy’ did a business of Rs 8 crore. Similarly, we should also remember that all Hindi movies do not always fare well at the box office.”
He said he has not taken up the issue with any politics or elections in mind.
MNS activists had staged protests outside multiplexes in Mumbai, Thane and Aurangabad on Saturday, for not screening Marathi films. Property at Nakshatra multiplex near Dadar railway station was damaged while posters at Starcity in Mahim were torn.
