Rape victim asks for CBI probe into complaint

The division bench of justice AM Khanwilkar and justice RG Ketkar directed the CBI counsel Mandar Goswami to inform the court by December 19.

According to the petition, it all started in July 2002, when the victim was seeking admission into an MBBS course and was introduced to Dr MA Sudan, who claimed to be the director of health, central government. He allegedly offered to secure an MBBS seat for her after taking Rs2 lakh from her family.

A year later, he told her family that he had managed a seat in Sora Medical College, Srinagar, and in April 2003, took the petitioner there for completing admission formalities. In Srinagar, he entered victim’s hotel room at night, raped her and even took her nude photographs.

After the period required for completion of course was over, Dr Sudan allegedly told her family that she had been selected for internship at Lucknow and continued to sexually assault her.

The petitioner informed her brother about her ordeal in July this year. However, her family chose not to lodge a complaint apprehending it might spoil the family’s reputation. Now, the victim has approached HC seeking lodging of an FIR against Dr Sudan and investigation to be conducted by an independent agency.
