The police fear that if the case against the four minors turns out to be false then their future is doomed. As they are being kept amidst hardened criminals at the Dongri Children’s Home.

Also, the four boys will now have a criminal record. The basic procedure in a rape case is to lodge a complaint as soon as the victim approaches the police. Once an FIR has been registered, inquiries are made and the accused arrested. Investigations are then started, but it is only a court of law that decides whether or not the person is guilty.

“As the FIR has already been registered, it is for the court to decide on a course of action if the charges against them are proved. Our job is to collect evidence, if any, in the case and produce it before the court,” said a senior police officer. Police said the four boys had raped the girl on two occasions in the first week of March.
