The condition of city’s roads has improved considerably, pock-marked, potholed-ridden roads, which were a motorist’s nightmare and a pedestrian’s horror, have been filled and repaired by the civic body.

Hindustan Times visited a few chronic spots after the rains were over and the change was visible. The Eastern Expressway stretch along the Garodia Nagar Road, Ghatkopar (E), and the JVLR Junction, Vikhroli (E), have been levelled and asphalted.

The newly built Sion flyover has been asphalted too, even though some of the surface on this stretch is still uneven.

Though most the problem spots on the Wadala flyover connecting Gandhi Market with Maheshwari Udyan, Matunga, have been addressed, some uneven patches on the slopes still remain.

“No doubt, the condition of roads has improved. During the rains, the entire Vikhroli (E) stretch of the Eastern Express Highway road was uneven and had uncountable number of potholes. Thankfully, the civic body acted swiftly, and hopefully it maintains this tempo throughout the year,” said Dewoo Sawant, 42, Vikhroli-based businessman.

However, RK Jawanjal, PWD executive engineer of the Eastern Expressway, said that next year on, the civic body will take preventive measures before the onset of the monsoon to prevent such occurrences. “We removed all the filling and temporary work done during the monsoon and entire stretch has been asphalted. Next year on, we will take preventive measures before the onset of the monsoon so that the rains don’t play havoc with city’s roads.”
