Residents oppose plans for art gallery at Mahim subway

Last month, the civic body invited statements of expression of interest (EoI) from city’s art colleges and institutions to display their artworks at the Metro cinema subway at Dhobi Talao.

However, Mahim residents have opposed a similar proposal at the Mahim subway, which is likely to be taken up next by the civic body.

The BMC has announced that once the art gallery unfolds at the Metro cinema subway, it would take up a similar proposal at the Mahim subway located on the Lady Jamshedji Road.

“Once an art gallery is opened at the Metro cinema subway, we will consider the proposal to open an art gallery at the Mahim subway too,” said Mohan Adtani, Additional municipal commissioner (island city).

Members of the Dargah Street Advanced Locality Management (ALM) in Mahim have written a letter to the municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte protesting protest against the civic body’s move, while also suggesting other productive ways in which the subway could be put to use.

He added that a portion of the subway alongside the Nakhuda Mohammad Ali Rogay garden can be removed to expand the garden space.
