According to the police, Pramila's body was found by her son Arun, 67, and his wife Smita, 64, who stay in the adjacent apartment. The Ghodis own two flats on the same floor.

The body was found when Arun woke up on Saturday morning and went to the main door to collect the newspaper and milk. He found the latch on the door broken. Suspecting foul play, he went to check on his mother in her bedroom and found her lying motionless.

Arun informed the neighbours, and subsequently, the police was alerted. The police added that Pramila was alive when Arun found her, but died on the way to the hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.

Arun told the police that gold and diamond jewellry like earrings his mother was wearing was missing. Besides, the lock on the cupboard had been broken and ornaments in it are said to be missing. "It appears that the ornaments have been stolen, but we cannot confirm whether she has been murdered until we get the post-mortem report," said Narayan Patil, inspector at Vile Parle police station, adding that no external injuries have been found on the body.
