Patil said the post-mortem report said Karkare was shot in a place that the jacket could not have covered. He added that Karkare had been shot from a very close range and a jacket could not have saved him.

The minister was responding to MLC, Mohan Joshi, who raised the issue of a delay in the purchase of bulletproof jackets and their quality.

“The center will help us get 2,725 jackets from an agency that supplies to the National Security Guards and central forces,” said Patil.
