Rs 118 crore assets: ACB arrests deputy collector

The Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested suspended deputy collector Nitish Thakur, 46, who has been charged with acquiring assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, a day after the agency carried out searches on Thakur’s 26 properties in Mumbai and Raigad district. Thakur, allegedly, has disproportionate assets of more than Rs 118.39 crore.

“Thakur was arrested on Thursday morning and produced in court. He has been remanded in police custody till March 22. The searches are still on at his properties at Raigad,” said Javed Sheikh, additional superintendent of police, Thane ACB.

A complaint had been registered by the ACB at Alibaug police station on Wednesday under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against Thakur, his wife Minal, mother Chhaya and brother Nilesh. The ACB has been carrying out searches at 26 of Thakur’s properties in Alibaug, Murud, Belkade, Kolgaon, Ghoteghar, Chikhli, Kandivili, Gorai, Borivli, Vile Parle, Andheri, Garodianagar, Ghatkopar.

On Wednesday, the ACB picked up Thakur from Vile Parle, where he has a duplex flat in one wing and a flat in the other. ACB officials reportedly had to break open the door after Thakur refused to open the door.
