Rs28K fine recovered from 10 auto drivers

The Andheri RTO, on Tuesday, registered 15 complaints against errant auto drivers on and recovered a penalty of Rs 28,500 from 10 drivers.

The Andheri RTO, on Tuesday, registered 15 complaints against errant auto drivers on and recovered a penalty of Rs 28,500 from 10 drivers. From the first week of December, both Andheri and Wadala RTOs have been booking auto rickshaw drivers every day for tampered meters.

In a month, both the RTOs together have booked 666 complaints and recovered more than Rs8.68lakh from 426 complaints.

"Our drive has slowed down in the past few as we have also been booking other vehicles such as trucks and vans for overloading, non-payment of tax and so on. But, we are still booking auto rickshaws daily so that errant drivers are scared," said DV Modak, assistant RTO, Andheri.

The Andheri RTO sends confiscated auto meters to Bandra Polytechnic and Thakoor Polytechnic, Kandivli, to check how fast they are.
