RTI activists may form union

After being threatened and attacked several times in the last year, Right to Information (RTI) activists involved in land and building related queries are now thinking of forming a union to safeguard them against the land mafia.

After being threatened and attacked several times in the last year, Right to Information (RTI) activists involved in land and building related queries are now thinking of forming a union to safeguard them against the land mafia.

The activists want to form a union because of two major factors.

“Nowadays, maximum scams are related to land and the maximum threats and attacks on RTI activists are because they question land-related activities. So activists’ safety is of major concern,” said RTI activist GR Vora.

The activists discussed the safety agenda earlier this month.

“Major threats and attacks occur because activists keep information to themselves and do not share it on a public domain. Sometimes this is not possible because of the lack of technology and knowledge available with them. But as an association we can work together and raise funds for such needs,” said RTI activist Krishnaraj Rao.

The activists will also ask the chief minister to enforce suo moto disclosure in all land-related transactions and
deals.

The union as projected will include activists involved in land and building queries from the Mumbai Metropolitan region.

The union is expected to be formed soon.
