Electricity bills of more than one lakh Tata Power customers in south Mumbai are expected to go down soon as the Bombay high court, on Tuesday, struck down the state government's May 2010 communication to the State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) to divert 360 MW power generated by Tata Power Company (TPC) to Reliance Infrastructure Ltd (R-Infra).

A division bench of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Anoop Mohta held the directives ultra vires of the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003.
The current dispute goes back to 2009 when TPC had intimated R-Infra that it would stop supplying 360 MW to the latter from March 31, 2010 citing its increased requirement in south Mumbai.
