Clearing the decks for the trials of the 11/7 train blasts, the 2006 Malegaon blast and the Aurangabad arms haul cases, the Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the petition filed by three accused in these cases and vacated the February 2008 stay on the trials.

The three accused — Zameer Ahmed Latifur Rehman Sheikh (32), Shabeer Ahmed Masiullah (36) and Mohammed Muzaffar Mohammed Tanveer (24) — had challenged the application of the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), questioning the constitutional validity of a section that deals with insurgency.
The trio pointed out that the matter is covered by the Union government in the Unlawful Activities Prevention (Amendment) Act, 2004.
The Bombay High Court had dismissed their plea in July 2007.
