The Supreme Court, on Friday, issued notice to Chavan after a Bandra resident filed a petition contesting the Election Commission’s notification to declare the Thane legislative seat vacant subsequent to the resignation of its elected representative Sanjay Satishchandra Dutt.

Immediately after Dutt’s resignation, Chavan filed his nomination from the said seat and was elected unopposed.
