Solanki’s body was taken to Bhagwati Hospital where he was declared dead before admission. Solanki was a resident of Aman Adarsh Society on Chandavarkar Lane, Borivli (West). Solanki was employed as a driver of a school bus.

He also owned a private ambulance.

According to the police, Solanki, whose wife had committed suicide around a year ago, was booked for abetment. His wife had committed suicide by setting herself ablaze. Later, Solanki’s in-laws, suspecting foul play, had approached the police and lodged a complaint against him.

On Thursday, Solanki left his residence around 7.15 pm and after loitering around for some time, went to Veer Savarkar garden which is at some distance from Bhagwati Hospital.

The police said that according to witness accounts, a man had accompanied Solanki to the garden and there they got into an argument following which the latter struck Solanki with a bamboo stick. The man then fled the spot.

“Solanki collapsed and shopkeepers took him to Bhagwati Hospital,” said an officer of Borivli police station on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

“We have registered a case of murder against an unidentified person. We have leads in the case and will be arresting the culprit soon,” said senior inspector Bhagwan Chate of Borivli police station.
