Schools impart innovative learning through films

School Cinema, an organisation that works to provide innovative methods of teaching at the school level, has come out with 10 short films for Classes 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

The 15-minute films — some animated — aim at providing value education through simple stories. Students can pen what they learnt through the films in a workbook, designed by School Cinema. “Through our research, we found about the common problems children of different ages face. Some of these are related to bullying, communicating with parents and relationships with siblings,” said Tabassum Modi of School Cinema.

“So we have actors who are the same age as the students to show how to overcome the difficulty. One of our animated films is about puberty and how to cope with the emotional, social and biological changes,” she added.

Once the films were conceptualised, different filmmakers were approached to script and make these films. “There are very few projects of such kind that use such a medium to communicate to schoolchildren. More such initiatives are required with changing times,” said Suresh Triveni, who has worked on four of the films including My Daddy Strongest, Dedh Footiya, Bluetooth, and Conditions Apply.

So far, 100 schools across India have signed for the film package priced at Rs 50,000.
