Scientists’ meet to solve research challenges

By the end of this week, scientists from India and Australia will identify common challenges that exist in both countries and start their journey to solve them through common research programmes.

Starting Thursday, faculty and students from the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B), Australia’s Monash University and industry leaders will brainstorm on potential research themes.

During the next three days, the IIT-B-Monash Research Academy will host its annual symposium that will cover research areas such as water technology, digital divide technology and nano-technology.

Stating that the Research Academy is already working with the industry in respective countries, IIT-B director-professor Devang Khakhar said, “It (the symposium) will intensify the innovation ecosystem that IIT-B exists in, whereby industry-driven innovation is carried through cross-disciplinary teams that include talented students along with industry.”

Apart from developing common research themes, the symposium will also see industry leaders sharing various needs and challenges that it faces as well as the kind of problems that the Academy would like to solve through research.

“With 60 PhD students in the programme and a growing publications list, I look forward to the Research Academy creating significant scientific impact in both India and Australia,” said professor Ed Byrne, chancellor and president, Monash University.
