Talking to the media on Tuesday, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan said the Mumbai police had sought the government’s permission to communicate with the Scotland Yard and the modalities were being worked out. “England has an excellent security system and we would like to collaborate with them,” he said.

“Previously, they had conducted their programmes here and even our officials went there for training. We are talking with them and, if possible, we will send our officers to England for training,” the chief minister said.

A few senior police officers are currently camping in Delhi to study the security employed during the Commonwealth Games.

Earlier in the day, the home ministry gave a presentation on the installation of CCTV cameras in the city and even presented the report submitted by the Project Management Consultant (PMC). “Two meetings on installation of CCTVs were convened today. Two-three presentations were also made. Home minister RR Patil informed [us] about the developments in the serial blasts probe,” Chavan said.

On Monday, RR Patil had come under fire from his party colleague and Mumbai guardian minister Jayant Patil for failing to install 5,000 CCTVs in the last two years.
