A senior officer from BKC police station told HT they had taken the advice of the office of the assistant director and public prosecutor (ADPP) before arresting Trivedi.

Namdev Chavan, deputy commissioner of police, zone 8, confirmed that due legal deliberations had been made over the sedition charge.

However, HB Jadhav, ADPP to the Mumbai police, told HT that he did not remember giving his opinion on the applicability of the charge. “I have to check if it was me or the law officer attached to the police station,” he said.
