Senior cop seeks to intervene

Singh’s counsel, Shirish Gupte, said the Crime Investigation Department (CID) could not conduct a probe under the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). Though Singh has not cited any reason for his objection, he said the same would be specified in due course.

At the time of Chaturvedi’s arrest, Singh was additional commissioner of the region. “Vested interests within the police machinery as well as without have machinated the present petition in order to cause serious harm to the reputation of intervener [Singh],” says Singh’s application.

Singh has sought that penal cost be imposed on Chaturvedi.

Kenjale’s advocate, Prakash Naik, said the order was passed against him [Kenjale] without hearing his side. Chaturvedi’s counsel, Adhik Shirodkar, and advocate Rizwan Merchant opposed the interventions, saying that he does not have the legal standing to argue in high court.
