A senior IPS officer has come under scanner of the state Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) after his subordinate was caught allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh on Saturday afternoon.

A sales tax officer, who is currently posted in Pune and had earlier served with Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (MHADA), had been facing a case with MHADA's vigilance department for an irregularity that he had allegedly committed during his earlier posting, said sources in the Navi Mumbai unit of ACB.

Jawahar Singh, who is currently posted with MHADA as Chief Vigilance Officer, allegedly threatened the complainant.

Four months ago, Singh allegedly told the complainant that if he did not pay him Rs 5 lakh, his file would be sent to the ACB.

The complainant brought the amount down to Rs 2 lakh. Incidentally, Singh was recently transferred to Aurangabad as Special Inspector General (Prisons), but he has not been relieved.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACB, Rajendra Shinde confirmed that Shinde was arrested while accepting the Rs 2 lakh near Navratna hotel in Vashi Sector 17.

He refused to comment on whether Singh would be called for questioning. "Our investigations are on," he said.

Singh was unavailable for comment as his phone was switched off.
