The deputy general manager of MTNL, who was allegedly involved in the Rs 7 crore SIM card scam, was granted anticipatory bail on Saturday.

According to the CBI, DGM B.B. Chaudhary, assistant general manager V. Gurumurthy, and MTNL distributors issued three lakh mobilephone connections between June 2008 and February 2009 based on forged documents.

Chaudhary had filed an application seeking anticipatory bail in the sessions court.
In his application, Chaudhary claimed that he did not benefit from the scam and was not involved.
“The CBI had conducted a raid at his house and impounded his passport,” said his advocate Anil Bugde.
