The courier service between Mumbai and Pune is all set to get a major boost. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will soon collaborate with courier service providers. This collaboration will speed up delivery of couriers between two cities; a courier that usually takes maximum a day or minimum six hours to reach, will reach in no time now.

“We have issued an expression of interest to gauge how many companies are keen to join hands with us on this project. We run such services through our Asiad and regular buses. The entire fleet of Volvos was not involved in this project,” said Deepak Kapoor, managing director and vice-chairman of the MSRTC.

According to transport corporation officials, this project will help courier services between these two cities because Shivneri, an MSRTC air-conditioned (AC) Volvo bus service between Pune and Mumbai, takes a little more than three hours.

“Private taxis take not less than six hours to deliver couriers while a speed post takes minimum one day. If this new system is introduced, the mailer system between Mumbai and Pune will be speedier and better as the frequency of Shivneris on this route is very good,” said an MSRTC official, on condition of anonymity.

“There are 79 Shivneris in the MSRTC’s fleet and the road corporation is planning to add 55 more buses. The entire fleet of 134 Volvos will not only make courier service between Mumbai and Pune faster but also generate additional revenue for us,” added Kapoor.
