“The form will be simple and we are trying to rule out glitches this time,” said N.B. Chavan, assistant director of education, Mumbai region.

Last year, the server for the online admissions could not handle a load of 2.5 lakh applications.

This time, instead of asking students to list up to 150 colleges in their order of preference, the upper limit will be reduced to 25.

“There is no point having such a high upper limit when students only favour a certain number of colleges,” said Chavan.

Colleges will have a single code number rather than the multiple code numbers they had last year based on categories such as the streams they offer and whether they are aided or not. Students will fill their residence address on the form so that if they do not get the college of their preference they will be allotted one near their home.

The department also plans to train school principals and teachers so that they are prepared to handle students’ difficulties while filling the forms. This year, colleges will be listed both ward-wise and stream-wise when the booklet of colleges is brought out. It will also be more compact.

“Last year the booklet was too thick so people didn’t go through it properly,” added Chavan.
