The Kurla government railway police (GRP) have approached the Thane police’s modus operandi bureau with CCTV footage and sketches of the man who allegedly killed 65-year-old Nanki Lal Mohammad Siddiqui.
Nanki was travelling from Varanasi to Mumbai with her grandson Mohamed Siddiqui, 19.
They were in the ladies compartment of Kamayani Express, when a man claiming to be a ticket collector boarded the train at Thane station.
He asked Mohamed to leave the compartment, because he was not allowed to travel in the ladies compartment, the police said.
At Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Mohamed found Nanki lying in a pool of blood and Rs 2,500 missing from her purse.
According to the police, the CCTV footage of platform number 8 of Thane station shows the suspect boarding the train.
Though the images are blurred the police suspect that man could be a resident of Thane and hence have sought help of the police’s modus operandi bureau.
“The bureau keeps a record of all the criminals in their area. We suspect that the accused could be a history sheeter and if that is the case then there is a possibility that we could get leads on his identity,” said Dilip Gore, senior inspector, Kurla railway police.
