Those using the 46 public parking lots at Fort, Colaba and Churchgate will be less prone to fleecing by private contractors as the civic body is set to implement a hi-tech web-based parking system by next month.

The system would be expanded to all the 86 city lots after the high court decides a case challenging the civic body’s reservation policy in granting contracts for operating them.

Those manning the lots would have to use hand-held devices that would generate your parking bills.

The system leaves no scope for contractors to overcharge motorists as the devices would have the parking charges pre-set in them.

Once fully operational, motorists will be able to check space availability at all civic parking lots in the city through a mobile and web app.
