‘Solapur plant an example for BMC’

Experts feel that the Solapur project, if successful, could be a guiding point for Mumbai, which generates 7,000 tonnes of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) daily, half of which is organic and could be used to generate at least 50MW.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been mulling over such projects for its dumping yards in Gorai and Deonar that are nearing closure, but hasn’t made any progress.

Suhas Bhand, chief visionary of Organic Recycling Systems Pvt Ltd , which will operate the Solapur plant on build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis, said, "The technology can be replicated anywhere, especially in Mumbai."
