Soon, an exclusive BEST bus service for touring the city

In a bid to enable seamless travel for tourists coming to see Mumbai, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has tied up with the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) bus service to provide hop-on-hop-off bus services in the city.

These buses will not be restricted to south Mumbai areas, but will enable tourists to visit Dhobi Ghat, Dharavi, famous caves of the city, Sanjay Gandhi National Park and even see the 20,000 flamingoes that visit the city every year at mudflats.

To ply on city roads soon, these buses which will have a distinct identity — they are likely to have a design on them, and will enable tourists to buy tickets for half-day, full-day or even week-long sightseeing. The tickets will enable them to climb buses meant for tourist services at designated stops on specific routes and will be available at bus depots.

“To begin with, we have identified around five routes on which the buses will start plying in the next few days. Apart from the regular south Mumbai heritage route covering the Fort area, Gateway of India and Marine Drive, we will have a museum circuit, a Mumbai fort circuit, one to Kanheri caves and also Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP),” MTDC director Jagdish Patil told HT.

“The bus routes will be available online and also in a booklet that will be made easily available. Accordingly, people will be able to hop onto any of these buses at any designated stops,” added Patil.
