Praneet Bodkare was a Class 2 student at Infant Jesus High School, Chincholi Bunder.

The incident occurred near his house, where Bodkare was playing with his friends. "The boy was riding pillion on a bicycle. After he got off the cycle and was halfway through the road, a speeding Mahindra Xylo knocked him down," said an officer from the Malad police station.

"The driver tried to brake but could not stop the car as it was running over 80 km per hour," said the official.

Hearing Bodkare scream, locals gathered at the spot and stopped the Xylo. They put Bodkare in the vehicle and rushed him to the nearby Saraswati Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The police arrested Rakesh Pandey (28) for causing death due to negligence.

Bodkare, a resident of Kumbharwada, lived with his parents and sister.
