SSC students rush to fill forms, slow down website

As 15,205 aspirants logged onto the website for online admissions to first year junior college (FYJC) on Saturday after SSC results were declared on Friday, the website slowed down with students struggling to fill forms despite several attempts.

Students complained they were able to submit their forms only after three or four attempts. “Every year the board assures the same thing — that online admissions will be easier. But the website is slow and confusing; I had to struggle to fill my form,” said Anusha Changani, a student of Hindi High School, Ghatkopar.

Scared that their forms may not have been submitted properly, several students from the city made a beeline for nearby guidance centres even though they were advised to fill the forms at their schools.

“Schools are of no help and when you try to get things done at home, the website freezes leaving us no option but to line up at guidance centres,” said another student, on condition of anonymity.

To worsen the plight of students, many of the guidance centres and schools were closed on Saturday.

“Firstly, we spent hours in locating a guidance centre that would help students from outside the city. When we reached that centre, it was closed for the day,’’ said Parag Mittal, a student from Sanjeevan Vidyalaya, Panchgani.

Documents an issue for FYJC aspirants
Many centres had not received the copy of conversion of grades for CBSE students. “While the board has circulated a copy for grades calculation, no provision for CBSE students has been provided,” said Pandit Karanke, a technician with the guidance cell at Jhunjhunwala College, Ghatkopar.

Guidance centres were also thronged by aspirants for verification of caste certificates for admission through SC, ST or OBC quota. “There is confusion over the caste verification certificate and options form,’’ said an official from a guidance centre at the Don Bosco School, Vikhroli.
