In a bid to improve the female sex ratio and curb female foeticide in Maharashtra, the state government has appointed a committee to find out the feasibility of a device – active tracker – that helps monitor sonography machines.

At present, the device is being used in Kolhapur district that has significantly high rate of female foeticide.
Health Minister Suresh Shetty said, “But there are few issues about the device; namely patient confidentiality and equipment cost that are to be sorted out.”
To be attached to the sonography machine, the device is equipped with a GPRS system that can be configured to the computer systems of the district authorities monitoring foeticide cases. “Officials can check how many devices are on and off,” said Girish Lad, managing director, Magnum Opus IT Consulting Private Limited.
