“We have sent a show-cause notice to the Meru Cab management as they were unable to stop drivers from going on strike, which resulted in inconvenience to commuters,” said Dilip Jadhav, transport commissioner.

The drivers demanded a hike in the base fare from Rs 20 to Rs 23 and an increase of Re 1 for every subsequent km, which was later, met by the transport department.

If the company’s management fails to give a reasonable answer for their ineptness then the department plans to take action.

Sources in the Regional Transport Office (RTO) said that a fine of around Rs 500 per car can be levied in case the department doesn’t find their reply suitable enough. Meru runs around 1,800 cabs in the city.
