'State govt has spent Rs. 25cr on Kasab so far'

A major part of this bill, Rs. 19.28 crore, has been spent on Kasab’s security, which is being provided by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), at Arthur Road jail, where he is being held.

The other expenses include Rs. 5.25 crore for creating an attack-proof structure for his confinement, Rs. 34,975 on food, Rs. 28,066 on providing medical facilities and Rs. 1.22 crore as salary of the staff attending to him.

He was replying to a query by Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam, who wanted to know the amount spent and the steps taken by the government to hang Kasab.

Defending the expenditure, Patil said: "We have to follow the course of law." He said the state plans to ask the central government to waive off the amount charged by ITBP as the attack was not merely on Mumbai, but on the country.
