The state government on Friday issued an action plan for the implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act ahead of schools reopening for the new academic year.

The state government on Friday issued an action plan for the implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act ahead of schools reopening for the new academic year. The Act came into force from April 1 this year.

The government resolution (GR) reiterates several points already highlighted previously. “The GR outlines the clauses for the purpose of practically implementing the Act – these will be the administrative details of how it will work,” said a government official.

According to the Act all children should have access to free and compulsory education.

While banning schools from charging capitation fees at the time of admissions, the Act also states that schools cannot conduct interviews for students seeking admission. Schools found violating these clauses will be liable for a penalty.
