There are at least 460 unauthorised schools in the state, of which 20 are in Mumbai.

The state government has put up a new list of authorised schools on its website, but those whose names do not figure there will have to close down.

The resolution said there are no pending applications from any schools.

However, so that students in such schools do not suffer, the government resolution states they will be allowed to appear for their exams at nearby authorised schools.

“If this is implemented, then it will benefit the students,” said Jayant Jain, president for the Forum for Fairness in Education.

“Why should students have to suffer if it is the school’s fault?” Jain added.
