State to ensure Mhada flats are ready

In the past three years 8,182 Mhada flats have been allotted through the lottery system. However, the state has received several complaints from residents on lack of water connection, faulty electric equipments and lifts, leakage problems, incomplete construction work, etc. Talking to Hindustan Times, Sachin Ahir, state minister for housing, said the government would ensure that everything was working properly before handing over the keys to the homebuyers. “We do not want to cause inconvenience to the residents. We wish to offer the best of facilities to them,” said Ahir.

The minister said he was going to visit the colonies at Canara Engineering Estate in Ghatkopar and Pratiksha Nagar in Sion – the areas he received the4 maximum complaints from.

Although residents have welcomed the decision, they feel a deadline needs to be put in place. “Our compound wall is so small that anyone can just enter the building. Also, the drains are left open. I hope now these things would be taken care of,” said Sandeep Tawde, a resident of Sion Pratiksha Nagar.
