State to form law to regulate private unaided schools

The freedom currently being enjoyed by non-SSC board schools owing to the Bombay high court’s recent order staying two Government Resolutions (GRs) may be short-lived.

The state has decided to come out with a full-fledged legislation regulating all private unaided schools.

The proposed legislation was informed to the high court during the hearing on a petition filed by the Unaided Schools Forum.

The legislation is titled as the Self Financed Schools (Establishment and Regulation) Act, and is most likely to have all the provisions contained in the GRs stayed by the high court.

The high court recently stayed the GRs dated August 7, 2009 and April 29, 2010, which required schools affiliated to boards such as CBSE, ICSE, IGCES, IB and CIE to compulsorily teach the Marathi language to their primary school students.

The petition is still pending before the high court and has been admitted for final hearing.
